Hi,
I just installed Ice and the python binding.
Setup ran allmost fine.
I also take a look at the first hundred pages of the hudge PDF doc.
I must say that I am pretty impressed by what ICE claims to provide.
After having work a lot with DCOM and a couple of weeks with CORBA, the
way ICE is presented is quite refreshing. It also look like a lot of
missing features in common ORB have been integrated inside the ICE
framework.
So, I would be very happy if we make ICE part of CPS4.
But.
Even if ICE looks fine and clean, deploying a ORB architecture allways
need some work.
So using ICE just for bridging CPS and Jack Rabbit looks to me quite
overkill.
But if we consider ICE in a broader approche, it could be interessting :
- Make a true language independant remote interface for CPS
-> Replace RemoteControler with an ICE interface
-> Have a true Component based API
-> Expose CPS Events
- Use ICE to have a connected/bi-directionnal connection between CPS
and Apogee
- Use ICE and IceBox to build a simple extension framework so that
builing simples extensions to CPS (Event Listeners, Injectors, Builders)
can be done in any languages
- Expose a Java compatible remote interface for intragation with
existing portals and portlets
Just thinking ...
