 I agree about your suggested solution. Unfortunately, there are many other
 bugs in jscalendar that we have found but the author of jscalendar does
 not seem very inclined to fix bugs, or for that matter answer emails where
 I offer him my help in fixing bugs. Changing this would therefore require
 us to make a major incompatible branching of the jscalendar, which we want
 to avoid.
