 If, e.g., one has a catalog tabular widget and there's no matching doc for
 the request, the rendering is never empty (there is some javascript, and a
 <p> without content), even if the empty_message property is empty.

 This is a problem within a portlet: CPSSkins doesn't see it as empty, and
 the portlet doesn't disappear.
