There is a tension between these two:

* we are building a framework, not an end-user product.

* in order to build a good framework, you actually need to have some 
experience with end-user products on top of it, to learn and feed back 
knowledge into the framework.

I do think it's important not to just be architecting in a void but try 
to use whatever we build in real world systems as soon as possible. If 
we don't do that, we still won't be very far in a few years.

But in the end we are indeed building a framework, not an end-user 
system. Luckily we do have a lot of experience in the community with 
existing frameworks and platforms that can hopefully make us take good 
decisions.
